Richard Heller – President

As our president, Richard Heller leads the US Floating Solar’s business development market strategy with our engineering, construction and investment partners.

Richard brings fourteen years of solar experience with CFOs and energy managers at Fortune 100 corporations. He helps utilities and municipalities in creating energy strategies that reduce electricity costs.

He also helps clients to implement, design and deploy, renewable and sustainable solar photovoltaic systems solutions that generate income.

US Floating Solar Opportunity

The research report by NREL on floating photovoltaic systems asses the technical potential of photovoltaic systems on man-made water bodies in the Continental United States.

Quick Facts

  • A total of 24,419 US man-made water bodies were identified as suitable for FPV.
  • Covering just 27% could produce almost 10% of the current national electricity.
  • Covering the surface area of all 24,419 would support 2,116 GW of installed FPV.
  • Covering only 27% of the surface area of the reservoirs could produce 786 TWh of electricity per year. A rough estimate is only 9.6% of electricity production in the United States, 2016.
  • Many are in water-stressed areas with high land acquisition costs and high electricity prices. FPV benefits can be utilized.

Case Study – Sayreville Floating Solar Array

The nation’s largest floating solar array allowed the Borough of Sayreville to reduce operational costs by 20% and achieve net-zero energy for 85% of the Borough’s electrical consumption.

Problem Statement

Borough of Sayreville had rising electrical costs from energy procurement and a desire to be sustainable throughout the Borough’s operations.

US Floating Solar

Solution

Through a 15-year power purchase agreement (longest allowed for Borough’s in NJ), the project team members have designed and built a 4.41MWdc floating solar array system, which they currently own and operate.

Result

In the first year of implementation, our solution resulted in savings over $150,000 per year to Borough. It also ensures long-term sustainability and meets future regulatory and political goals.
